RocketWerkz is an ambitious video games studio based on Auckland’s waterfront in beautiful New Zealand.
We’re independent, make our own original games and take calculated risks. We believe that games only truly come to life as they are played, so we aren’t afraid to experiment and adapt quickly.
Our studio is on Auckland’s waterfront, close to nightlife, public transport hubs, shopping and food. From the top floor of the PwC Tower, we have 360 degree views of the city and the Hauraki Gulf.
You can see a volcano from our lunchroom. Don’t worry, it’s dormant.
Our origins lie in indie games, game modding and pioneering early access development, where player feedback is part of the process. RocketWerkz’s founder Dean Hall created the hit survival game DayZ, which began life as a community-driven game mod before going on popularize the survival genre worldwide.
A proud New Zealander, Dean returned home to establish RocketWerkz in the university city of Dunedin in early 2015. In 2019, RocketWerkz expanded to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, with a waterfront studio and larger team.
We always have multiple projects on the go and our games have ranged from indie, niche or experimental projects to ambitious open worlds.
RocketWerkz has received investment backing from Tencent, one of the world’s largest games companies, but remains independent and majority locally-owned.
We’re a group of fun, talented individuals who love what we do! Our dress code may be casual, but our dedication to our work is anything but.
We organize amazing tech and video game events to help shape the future of the industry and inspire everyone to be a part of it.
Plus, we love getting together for social events and enjoying activities like team sports, book clubs, DnD sessions, and just hanging out after work.
We’re also well-connected with local universities, design schools, meetups, and industry groups.
We support remote and hybrid working but getting the team together in person is still a key part of our creative problem-solving process.
Plus, our chillout space views are some of the best of any game studio in the world!
Having multiple different voices helps us make better games. We encourage applications from interesting, talented, experienced people from anywhere and with any background.
We highly value diversity and you can read about our inclusion and diversity plans here.
Anyone regardless of disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, neurodiversity, or any other aspect of a person’s culture or identity will be welcome in our team.
