Our origins lie in indie games, game modding and pioneering early access development, where player feedback is part of the process. RocketWerkz’s founder Dean Hall created the hit survival game DayZ, which began life as a community-driven game mod before going on popularize the survival genre worldwide.
A proud New Zealander, Dean returned to home to establish RocketWerkz in the university city of Dunedin in early 2015. In 2019, RocketWerkz expanded to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, with a waterfront studio and larger team.
We always have multiple projects on the go and our games have ranged from indie, niche or experimental projects to ambitious open worlds.
RocketWerkz has received investment backing from Tencent, one of the world’s largest games companies, but remains independent and majority locally-owned.
At RocketWerkz you’ll join artists, gamedevs, programmers, designers, musicians and more from over 15 nationalities. They’ve worked at leading studios such as Bethesda, Sony PlayStation, Activision, Grinding Gear Games and Bohemia Interactive before joining RocketWerkz. We’re well connected with local universities, design schools, meetups and industry groups.
We support remote and hybrid working but believe getting the team together in person is still a key part of the creative problem-solving process.
Our chillout space views are some of the best of any game studio in the world.
